This is why I don't refer to notes when writing
Thursday, February 11, 2010 at 10:22AM This is why I never refer to any notes when writing my books. Don't get me wrong, I do tons of research. But when it comes time to write, I don't look at anything until after I've written the chapter. Then I'll go back and fill in quotes from either primary or secondary sources. But I always start with a blank piece of paper and my memory. It's the only way to be 100% sure that you don't inadvertently lift someone else's language. It's a shame, because Gerald Posner is a good reporter and writer.
