CBS Sports should fire David Feherty
Sunday, May 10, 2009 at 07:11PM I know CBS Sports' David Feherty is supposed to be a wise-cracker and comic foil during their golf telecasts, but his attack on Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid went waaaaay over the line.
Here's what he wrote: "From my own experience visiting the troops in the Middle East, I can tell you this though: Despite how the conflict has been portrayed by our glorious media, if you gave any U.S. soldier a gun with two bullets in it, and he found himself in an elevator with Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and Osama bin Laden, there's a good chance that Nancy Pelosi would get shot twice, and Harry Reid and bin Laden would be strangled to death."
What's particulary galling (beyond the lame attempt at humor) is that it was completely pre-mediated in a written column for D magazine (and ostensibly approved by an editor). This wasn't some off-the-cuff remark gone awry, nor did a shock jock pry it out of him on live radio or something. He wrote it. And some editor read it. And probably a publisher, too. He had all the time in the world to think about, and re-think about it, and this is where he netted out.
Totally unacceptable. The guy should be fired from CBS Sports Ben Wright-style.
