Joe Nocera of the New York Times is the voice of reason during this week of AIG insanity.

Liberal Newsweek columnist Eleanor Clift has a terrific piece (did I just write that?) on Obama's AIG problem.  "President Obama likes to remind voters that he inherited a mess, and that's true, but this one is of his own making," she writes. "And until he comes up with a satisfactory explanation of who did what when, and why, his credibility will suffer."

Charlie Cook of the aptly named Cook Report finds a silver lining for Republicans ... evidently, they've pulled even with Democrats in the generic Congressional poll.  Writes Cook: "The GOP should be heartened by the first encouraging polling news it has received perhaps since Lehman Brothers defaulted in mid-September: Republicans have pulled even with Democrats on the generic congressional ballot test, according to a survey by a respected pair of firms."
