Some pitchers are good; others are great; and then there's Johan Santana

For us Mets fan, the past two weeks have been another September to forget.  It seems like this team has elevated sleep-walking to an art form.

But when the chips were down, and they absolutely/desperately/God help us if we don't get a win today, Johan Santana turned in one of the most brilliant performances in Mets history.

On three days rest, following a brilliant 125 pitch complete game win on Tuesday, Santana turned in a complete game 3-hit shutout to keep our playoff hopes alive.  Hopefully the Cubs will do us a solid against the Brewers today, though counting on the Cubbies for anything is a bit of a crap-shoot.

Stud pitchers pitch stud ballgames when it's needed the most, and Santana did just that.  He certainly proved he's worth every nickel of his $100+ million contract.  At least for one weekend I'll be the second biggest Cubs fan after Mitch.

u seem to be getting your wish so far ragone. Cubs r playing a bunch of reserves up and down the lineup and so far have been making the brewing look like a rotten bratwurst.

WOW. Absolutely brilliant. Reminded me of vintage Doc, without all the baggage.

It's amazing how 365 days later, we are in the exact same position. A win tomorrow and we move on another day. This is either really exciting or really cruel, haven't figured out which yet.

The irony, it's now down to Ollie to save our season. In the words of the great philosopher Mike Ragone: "Perez is so stupid that the pressure won't faze him tomorrow, and he'll pitch us to victory" Mike, I agree :-)

Nick, if we DO make it to the playoffs, should we goto the Barfly to watch? lol

2 years in a row, same result. I can't even articulate how I feel right now.
