President Bush comes out of hibernation

It was good to see President Bush come out of hibernation, at least for a day.

His speech was effective in laying out the problem, the solution, and the consequences of inaction should Congress fail to pass his bailout package.

At the end of the day, Congress has little choice:  either pass the bailout package or plunge the economy into a prolonged recession.  My guess is that the White House and Congress will spend most of tomorrow negotiating the remaining provisions, and will announce some type of compromise package late in the day.

Obama and McCain will be part of that process, and will share equally in the credit.  And then it'll be back to politics, and the presidential debate Friday night.

Footnote:  In over 7 months, and 200 blog entries, this is my first post about President Bush.

i guess he did lay everything out, but he didn't really touch on tough questions like ceo pay (or i don't recall). i don't feel more/less of an unsettling feeling regarding recent events. i like this nytimes article better as a way of thinking about the current situation...

i also liked bill clinton's assessment on larry king better...

Check out Pfailin's god-awful interviewswith Couric last night. Also, check out Letterman's rant against McCain for cancelling his appearance because he needed to rush back to D.C. for exconomy crisis...only to find out he is in Couric's studio for an interview! both clips are on youtube and gawker.com. What a joke this campaign has become..the wheels have essentially fallen off..

Nick, I told the Cubs to simply hand you the game last night. They did that, and you guys simply refused and wanted to end the season this week.
