A new round of Rasmussen polls were released today, and it showed McCain +4 in Ohio, +5 in Florida, and +2 in Virginia, while Obama was +3 in Pennsylvania and +7 in Michigan.
This is really interesting in that it has McCain leading in his three critical hold states (states that Bush won in 2004), and Obama leading in his two critical hold states. The only real surprise is the size of Obama's lead in Michigan -- it was expected that McCain would be more competitive there -- and the tightness in Pennsylvania. My guess is that Palin is still a net positive for rural "values" voters in Pennsylvania and Ohio, and it's showing in the polls.
Speaking of Palin, according to published reports 60,000 people turned out for a Palin-only event in Florida over the weekend, the largest single crowd for any candidate this election season (not including the Parthenon coronation in Denver). While the national media and left wing loonies have practically satiated themselves with Palin hate, she continues to connect with ordinary voters in a way that even Obama has not. The Obama camp might be relieved that the national polls have tilted back to Obama, but they'e definitely nervious about Palin's continued strength in rural America.
