ABC shut out of presidential debates

The non-partisian Commission on Presidential Debates announced the moderators of the four debates, and ABC was shut out.

Tom Brokaw of NBC, Bob Schieffer of CBS, and Jim Lehrer of PBS will moderate the three presidential debates, and Gwen Ifill of PBS will moderate the lone Vice Presidential debate.  Nowhere to be found:  Charlie Gibson and George Stephanopoulos of ABC News.

It's odd that PBS would get two debates and ABC none.  I could only imagine that the CPD was none too impressed with ABC's final debate between Hillary and Obama in Philadelphia, where they seemed to obssess on Reverened Wright and other tangential issues.  ABC took a lot of heat for it at the time, and certainly didn't win any fans in the Obama camp.

The first debate and last debate are usually the most interesting -- the first because both candidates are usually a bit nervous and uneasy, and the last because the trailing candidate is typically on the attack in search of a knockout blow.  The second debate is usually forgetable, and the Vice Presidential debate is utterly irrelevant.

I don't think either candidate is a particularly effective debater.  Hillary won just about every encounter with Obama, and McCain didn't distinguish himself either.  That should make it even more entertaining.
