Honoring WWII Vets
Friday, July 4, 2008 at 07:24AM The Today show had an amazing story about a group called Honor Flight Network -- their mission is to fly every WWII veteran to the WWII memorial in Washington, D.C
Since the WWII Memorial opened four years ago, only a fraction of the estimted 2-3 million WWII vets have actually been to it. Sadly, many vets don't have the resources or stamina to make the trip on their own.
A pilot and retired Air Force Captain named Earl Morse founded Honor Flights a few years ago, and they currently have 11 pilots who donate their time flying WWII vets to the memorial. Thanks to Honor Flights, thousands of vets have seen their memorial, but they have a backlog of 6,000 heros still waiting to make the trip.
It's estimated that we're losing a thousand WWII vets every day, so time is of the essence. If you want to make a donation, go to their website at HonorFlight.org.
