There's no doubt that Obama dominated the news cycle for a week -- and in the process completely overshadowed John McCain -- but in the end, what did he really accomplish? He's going to have a harder time arguing that we should summarily pull our trips when it's obvious that the surge is making a difference -- a position that McCain has been arguing for years.
In a way, Obama's brilliant tour has worked against him; he brought more attention to the success of the surge than McCain could have ever done, and because of it he'll have a hard time railing against it.
