Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at 08:28PM The buzz is growing louder and louder that John McCain will choose former rival Mitt Romney as his running mate.
I wouldn't go so far as to call it a done deal, but he's clearly the overwhelming front runner at this point.
It makes pretty good sense. Romney brings instant credibility on the economy, which is becoming a bigger and bigger with each passing day, and shores up social conservatives as well. He's a prodigious fundraiser, a tested campaigner, and he won't be afraid to play the traditional Veep role of attack dog. And with his deep ties to Michigan, Romney would likely deliver that must-win state to McCain.
If McCain was smart, he'd wait until a day or two after the Democratic convention to unveil his choice, cutting short the "afterglow" of Obama's big night.
