Please make Brett Favre go away already

Someone please make Brett Favre go away already.

He officially kicked off his "I still wanna play" world tour with an appearance on Greta Van Susteren's Fox News show "On the Record" tonight.

Brett_Favre_Strahan_Sack_20.jpgSo it looks like we'll have a few months of this nonsense until the Packers and Favre reach some kind of agreement on his playing status.  Favre wants to be unconditionally released -- because he's Brett Favre, and Brett Favre gets what Brett Favre wants -- while the Packers actually want to receive some value for him.   It's already devolved into a he said/they said war of words, with some idiotic fan protesters thrown in for good measure.

This is going to drag out longer than le affaire A-Rod, except that it's not nearly as interesting.  As a Giants fan, I could care less who Favre plays for -- the G-Men are going to crush the Packers again, and whatever other team grandpa ends up with.  The guy throws interceptions the way Terry McAuffile spins: with abandon.

The Packers are in a no-win situation.  If they release him, he'll be free to join any team -- including the Vikings and Bears -- and the fans will be apoplectic.  If they bring him back, it'll put off Aaron Rodgers development for another year, and they'll still fall short of a championship because the guy can't play anymore.    The Packers management should humiliate Favre the way Hank Steinbrenner humiliated A-Rod for opting out of his contract:  by making him publicly acknowledge his mistake and gravel for his job back.

FIRST!!! Interesting post. I guess this falls under the category of PR. When I heard this story I think I was watching ESPN's pregame show for the HR Derby. I did a doubletake when they credited Greta's show. Why the heck would he make his comeback statement on her show??? I didn't see the segement, but you have to know she agreed to give him an open mic and cushion to deliver his message. No way she was going to call BS on his comeback. Any other journalist worth their salt would've have dinged him at least once. Credit to his PR rep for finding the lamest show on TV. And talking about calling BS (and since we're on the subject of sports), I call BS on the HR Derby. How the heck does Hamilton hit 28 dingers in round once and NOT win the freakin contest?!?! MLB needs to rethink the scoring for the event.

one of the reason's Greta got Favre is that she hails from Packer-country, is a huge Packers fan and is friends with Brett Favre. She wore a cheese-head foam hat during one of her shows during playoff run last year.

He has been on her show a few times in the past couple years. So, aside from the debate about why he is coming back, I do see why he went on her show to come out with this. She is normally a hard-ass interviewer (a former attorney) but does has a soft spot for all things Favre and Packers. I can't fault him for going on her show. They are friends.

When did the Giants "crush" the Packers? The G-Men edged GB in overtime by three points in January, and got spanked by the Packers in September. More power to 'em as world champs, but come on. The Giants didn't crush anybody last year...they had to play at their peak just to get by and win.

Nevertheless, I agree that Favre is being a crybaby.
