Landmark Supreme Court decision

Today was a good day for Second Amendment purists, as the Supreme Court overturned a restrictive hand-gun ban in Washington, D.C., and in the process ended the debate about whether the Second Amendment protects an individuals right to own a gun.

gura.jpgWhy am I blogging about this? Mostly because the victorious lawyer was Alan Gura, a law school friend and now the pre-eminent Second Amendment lawyer in the country.

What does this mean?  Most likely lots and lots of litigation in states and cities with restrictive hand-gun laws.   For Second Amendment lawyers, it's going to be a very busy few years.

Interestingly, both John McCain and Barack Obama voiced support for the Supreme Court's decision, though McCain's was a more full-throated endorsement.   No doubt voters in Ohio, Michigan and Pennsylvania -- three critical swing states -- will be paying close attention to Obama's public statements about the ruling in the days to come.

Footnote:  Howard Kurtz, the media reporter for the Washington Post, has a devestating piece chronicling Obama's flip-flops on gun control, and the MSM's total indifference to it.
