Profiles in leadership
Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at 07:24AM Professor Bruce Berger at the University of Alabama, with the help of his graduate students, has written a book on leadership styles, and one of the chapters profiles me. It was a pretty interesting experience to be on the other end of an interview, and it certainly made me think more about my own leadership style.
My philosophy on leadership can be summed up with one phrase: Lead by example. Don't ask others to do what you're not willing -- or capable -- of doing anymore, and don't be an absentee leader -- people need to see you in the trenches battling every day. It's a pretty good read, though the part about me wanting to be on the New York Mets is plain embarassing now :-)

Such a fantastic piece! Genuinely admirable, among many other great things... clearly you practice what you preach, and we'd be better off if others- in leadership positions and otherwise- would take a few cues from you.
Great Piece, your parents must be very proud ...
Asolutely fantastic Nick. Direct and transparent..two characteristics I havent often seen in a leader and two that certainly define you. Way to go on this...

I agree 100%. If you can't lead by example then you are not a leader at all.
