There's someone more classless than the New York mets brass

Of all the remembrances, eulogies, and anecdotes of Tim Russert this week, syndicated columnist Bob Novak may have offered up the most unusual "tribute" to the fallen newsman.

novak.jpgIn a Washington Post op-ed, the "Prince of Darkness" essentially outed Russert as a long-time source for his weekly column, writing "we exchanged political information, and I usually was the recipient.  He supplied for use in my column news tidbits he could not use. During my half-century of journalism, he was the only colleague who was a source."  He goes on to note that Russert was the master of opposition research and negative leaks while an aid for Senator Pat Moynihan and Governor Mario Cuomo.

How charming.  There's nothing unusual about journalists horse-trading information, but to announce it to the world on the op-ed pages of the Washington Post is beyond classless.  Even the New York Mets hierarchy feels shame for Novak, and they have no conscience.

As bad as this would have been regardless of circumstances/timing, it's despicable on a WHOLE other level that Novak released such info about Russert posthumously... and under the guise of an op-ed 'tribute,' no less. What a back-handed, unwarranted, undeserved, and unjustifiable slap. For shame.

Good catch on this Nick. I have always felt Novak was all about me, me, me. He loved being the story more than the story itself.

This proves my instincts correct. What a jerk.
