Get ready for the C-word
Thursday, June 12, 2008 at 08:07PM Unwilling to flat-out call John McCain old, the Obama campaign today began beta-testing a euphemism to remind voters of McCain's age: he's confused.
A team of Obama surrogates -- including Senator John Kerry and foreign policy advisor Susan Rice -- made the rounds on the talk-show circuit referring to McCain's Iraq policy as confusing, and that the Senator was confused about the facts.
The translation: the old geezer is losing it. The implication was clear, and Team Obama was on message with the c-word, using "confused", "he's confused", and "he's confusing" interchangeably all day. When confronted with this word-play, Team Obama denied that there was any code-speak, but just by having the question asked, the Obama camp accomplished its goal.
It will be interesting to see how the McCain campaign deals with the age issue. According to the greatest TV show in history, the A-Team, the best defense is a good offense, and in this case that certainly holds true. If McCain wants to avoid talking about his age all summer and fall, he needs to attack Obama's weaknesses and change the debate. Otherwise, we'll be hearing lots of code words for old-fart.

Hey! What's wrong with being a little confused? We old farts are proud that we're only a LITTLE confused. Besides, if you get enough of us confused, we might not punch our cards correctly and Obama might pull a Chad Bush in all fifty states, not just Florida.
