Edwards carries no clout in NC
Saturday, May 3, 2008 at 11:59PM Politico.com has a great piece about John Edwards and his lack of clout in his home state of North Carolina.
Evidentially, there's quite a bit of resentment among North Carolina Democrats who felt that Edwards used the state as a springboard to national prominence without ever really establishing deep roots with the locals.
The money paragraph: The former senator and 2004 Democratic vice presidential nominee, they say, was like a political comet. He seemingly appeared out of nowhere, inspired awe with the intensity of his talent, blazed through a single term in the Senate, then disappeared from the radar almost entirely.
As for any potential Edwards endorsement, according to locals it would hardly matter. "It would carry no weight,” Politico quotes John Davis, editor of The Almanac of North Carolina Politics. "He didn't help carry any state in the Southeast, his own home county or even his home precinct in 2004." Ironically, his endorsement would actually matter on the national front because it would mean a few dozen delegates at the convention, even if it has no impact on Tuesday's election.
I hope John Edwards remembers how to be a trial lawyer, cause his days as a politician are over.
