Obama takes lead in superdelegates
Saturday, May 10, 2008 at 10:46PM As if any more proof was needed that the Democratic primary was effectively over, Barack Obama took the lead in in superdelegate support for the first time.
According to several news sources, Obama picked up five more superdelegates on Saturday, giving him 276 -- five more than Clinton. Hillary began the year with a 100 superdelegate lead, but Obama has been steadily chipping away at the margin since Super Tuesday.
Even if she wins West Virginia by a comfortable margin -- which everyone expects to be the case -- the superdelates will continue to trickle in for Obama. After the Kentucky and Oregon primaries on May 20th, Obama will have a mathematical majority of pledged delegates, and the remaining superdelegates will likely put him over the top in early June. Put a fork in this one.
