Democratic registration
Monday, April 21, 2008 at 09:45PM If the Democrats are looking for a silver lining in this brutal Pennsylvania contest, it's this: According to the PA secretary of state, there have been 217,000 new voter registrations since January, the vast majority of which are Democrats.
Conventional wisdom holds that Obama is bringing in a large chunk of these new registrants, but irrespective of their motivation, this doesn't bode well for the Republicans come November. And it's not just Pennsylvania -- just about every state which has held a primary or caucus has seen a surge in Democratic registration. McCain will certainly have his work cut out to overcome this numbers deficit.
Of course, there is no guarantee that the eventual nominee -- whether it be Obama or Hillary -- can put the party back together. And the longer the battle rages, the harder it will become. No doubt McCain is rooting for a solid Hillary victory tomorrow.
