The Gore-Carter conspiracy

I'm not sure how much credence to give to the The Scotsman, a UK daily paper, but according to one of their intrepid reporters, Al Gore and Jimmy Carter are secretly conspiring to convince Hillary to exit the race after Pennsylvania.

JimmyCarter.jpgThe money quote:  "They're in discussions," a source close to Carter told Scotland on Sunday. "Carter has been talking to Gore. They will act, possibly together, or in sequence."

This scenario wouldn't have seemed far fetched 3 or 4 days ago, prior to Obama's "bitter" comment, but since his faux pas Hillary seems to have the momentum, at least for the time being.  It's hard to imagine Obama winning Pennsylvania -- or keeping it competitive for that matter -- and so the next battleground will become North Carolina and Indiana.

I think there's little chance Gore and Carter move on Hillary prior to June 2nd, but once all the votes have been counted, and Obama leads in pledged delegates, it may very well require the party's two elder statesmen to step in and keep the peace.
