The PR of the auto bailout
Monday, December 8, 2008 at 07:59PM I was on Live Desk this afternoon discsusing GM's ad in Automotive News where they semi-apologize to the American people for losing their way.
My basic point was that it was an extraordinary first step in winning over the public, but that they need to follow it up with a CEO media tour where he can explain directly to taxpayers why he needs their money.
The big three need to treat this like a political campaign and speak directly to the people. If they can convince the voters that the bailout is justified and necessary, they'll have a much easier time getting Congress to go along. But it's hard to change minds without taking it to the streets.

do u think they need to explain tax payers funding outsourcing, which wasn't mentioned in the "apology"?
