Nick Ragone is an author, attorney and public relations executive in New York City. He earned a bachelor’s degree in history and political science from Rutgers University, and is a graduate of the Eagleton Institute of Political Science at Rutgers University (undergraduate) and the Georgetown University Law Center.

By the bye, Nick, your post on "Why Obama is going to win in a landslide" was superb, though obviously from my "guesstimate" in your contest I think it will be closer.
How can you tell what time we post? I don't see any times listed. Right now it's not quite 7 am PST while I'm writing this, and I wanted to add about your post about dubya and his "legacy" that he appears so concerned about. I really don't think the Republicans have to worry about being out of power for too long a time. dubya's legacy clearly has a lot to do with the GOP's being temporarily out of power, but over the medium and long terms they'll be back in power, and out, and in, and out, etc. That's just what Americans feel most comfortable with, a balance of power between the two major parties. dubya and little dick have tried to be very secretive, keeping Americans out of the line of information, more so than any administration in my lifetime, except perhaps Nixon.
I think dubya's true legacy is the nastiness of the division that exists in this country. While dubya's approval rating is at an all-time low since such ratings began, there is strong animosity evident that cuts across party lines and exists within the far right and the far left. The animosity seems to permeate the entire political spectrum. Karl Rove played on this animosity brilliantly (in the sense of "evil genius") in 2000 and 2004. It will take a super politician to reduce that division.
I think "history" will record dubya's legacy as the strong dichotomy in our country that has always existed subliminally but that dubya exacerbated by his inability to reflect on what he's doing, by his gut decisions based on who-knows-what, by his poor advisors and by the even poorer advice they gave him (especially, as you point out, with Iraq).
Maybe we can begin to move past this division if Obama is elected, even by the narrower margin that I have predicted in my previous comment on your post. Obama seems to be intelligent; so far at least he has surrounded himself with good people; and unlike the previous Democratic president he seems to be able to keep his pants on. Those are not unimportant attributes.
