Two for the price of one?

My law school friend Don makes an interesting point via email.  His take on Hillary as Secretary of State:  It's two for the price of one again, and a tacit admission by Obama that he's short on experience and needs to lean on Bill for counsel.

I think there may be some merit to this.  There's no doubt that with Hillary at State, Bill's counsel is only a phone call away, and surely it will come in handy every now and again.

Being the cynic that I am, however, I think there was a more sinister motive at work:  Putting Hillary at State means that she can't create mischief in the Senate, and Bill can't create mischief at all.  I like to call it the "boxing them in strategy".  If they weren't in the administration, and became disenchanted with Obama's agenda, is there any doubt they would have made his life miserable?

I think Hillary at state is a brilliant political move -- it takes mischief off the table (presumably) -- and will result in good policy, too.  With Obama obsessing on the economy -- as well he should be -- he'll need a strong hand to guide foreign policy.  It'll be interesting to see how Diamond Joe and Hillary and Bill all get along, but at least it frees Obama to focus on jump starting the economy, which is priority one, two, and three at the moment.
