Travel schedule reveals it all

If you want to know just how much of an uphill battle it is for John McCain, just look at his travel itinerary over the next two days.

On Monday he's visiting seven states in a mad dash to the finish line.  Unfortunately (for McCain), six of them -- Florida, Tennessee, Nevada, New Mexico, Ohio and Arizona -- are states that Bush won in 2004.  The only red state on McCain's schedule is Pennsylvania, and that has essentially become a must-win state for him.

Obama, on the other hand, will be in three blue states on Monday -- Florida, Virginia and North Carolina -- to go along with the four he visited on Saturday -- Ohio, Missouri, Colorado and Nevada.

Aside from Pennsylvania, it's hard to remember the last time either candidate set foot in a state that John Kerry won in 2004.

When a candidate is playing this much defense this late in the game, it almost always means a landslide.  See Dole, Robert, and Dukakis, Michael, for further clarification.
