Is this McCain's last chance?

Although there is one remaining debate on October 15th, in some respects this may be McCain's last, best chance to alter the trajectory of this election.

Even if he scores a victory on October 15th, it may be too late to make an impact on the election; after all, a third of the country has begun early voting, and McCain needs to change perceptions right now.

Clearly McCain isn't getting any help from the stock market or current events.  The lingering chaos in the financial markets continues to work against him, and it's suffocating his message (if he has any).   At the end of the day, the only thing that will resonate in this atmosphere are sharp attacks, and it's the one thing left in McCain's arsenal.

The only way he'll convince voters that Obama isn't fit to be President is by playing the "guilt by association" card with Rezco, Ayers and Reverend Wright.   The only time Obama's numbers suffered during the primary was during the Rezco trial and when the Wright tapes surfaced.   There might not be another smoking gun moment out there, so McCain needs to force the issue and dredge up these characters.  If  he doesn't do it tonight, he might not have another chance.

This debate format doesn't lend itself to ongoing attacks. Mccain really doesn't have any quivers left in his arsenal. Plus, no way Obama will allow McCain to swift boat him. Obama is ready to attack right back in an even more imoactful way - his role in Keating 5...a much more topical attack given the current financial mess we are in.

i think we may hear a lot about Obama taking more Fannie/Freddie money than anyone in Congress not named Chris Dodd ...

Nick we all know the average american is an idiot. Mac raised all of these points but it goes over everyone's head like it wasnt just said. Obama smirks when he is pinned to taking all of this money from Freddie/Fannie and doesn't even respond to the comment.

After watching lasting night's debate - which was a bore - it's sad that in this great country these are the people we are forced to choose from. It reminded me of watching elections in my High School with two unpopular idiots running for office, where no one really cared about who won....but ultimately the kid who promised vending machines in every classroom took the election...sadly if this mentality holds true Obama will win...because all of his rhetoric is just that...promises to do everything for everyone..putting those vending machines in every classroom.....even though deep down we all knew it was never going to happen.

I think Americans should focus on the first lady...Cindy MaCain looks like an American 1st Lady...while Michelle Obama looks like she is on her way to restarting the black panther movement. She is clearly one angry black bitch
