McCain's last stand

Well ... If John McCain is going to make a late surge, he needs to begin tomorrow night with an explosive debate performance.

And by explosive, I mean he had better land some haymakers. Of course, in order to land a haymaker, you have to throw a few -- something McCain hasn't done in the first two debates.

It's not for a lack of material, however.  McCain hasn't once mentioned the "unholy three" -- Rezco, Ayers and Wright -- or for that matter Acorn, the nutty left wing group that has been cited for all kinds of voter registration fraud (and for which Obama did his "community organizing" with back in the day).  The closest McCain has come to a haymaker was his criticism of Obama for his Freddie/Fannie connections (and their role in the mortgage meltdown), and even that was fleeting and dyspeptic.

For some reason, McCain doesn't feel comfortable going on the offensive in these debates, but at this point it's his only recourse -- there are no moves left on the chess board.  He needs to open up a line of attack that draws blood and which he can take onto the campaign trail.  Tomorrow is his last chance.

Chuck Todd on NBC ran through the electoral map and essentially said at this point it is almost impossible for mccain to win. Ne needs to win every swing state, including those where obama is up almost 20 points. I'll but my money on a cubs world series next year over a mccain win at this point.
