West Virginia and Arkansas in play?

Wow, this can't be a good sign for the McCain camp.

NBC's Chuck Todd is opining that West Virginia and Arkansas are now toss ups -- two (usually) solid red states.

If you remember, Obama got trounced in both states by Hillary Clinton during the primaries.  Just the notion that either is competitive belies huge problems for McCain; it means he isn't connecting with blue collar and "values" voters, and neither is Sarah Palin.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Palin dispatched to both states to rev up the grassroots activists and reach out to HIllary voters.   Keep in mind, both West Virginia and Arkansas have a strong Democratic heritage.  In fact, for most of the 20th century, they were Democratic strongholds -- particularly during tough economic times -- and they may be reverting back to form, at least for this election.

If the Republicans have to put resources to secure either state, they're in big trouble.

Dear Sen McCain:

I see you through my rear view mirror.

Fondly,
